The olive branch bistro opened september 27, 2000 at 108 broadway street. Owner Angie Haider, me, found the perfect location to begin my dreams of bringing an fully licensed, intimate, finer dining bistro to the south east corner of Saskatchewan. Originally open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm 7 days a week, the bistro slowly but surely garnered a following for the supper crowd. The breakfast hours were dropped after just a couple months as it just wasn’t busy. The bistro continued with lunch for about 2 1/2 years and by June 2003, we were only open in the evenings and due to the space, getting a reservation was something you needed!
I purchased the current location of the bistro in January 2004. It was a perfect fit! Seating capacity doubled and I was able to keep the atmosphere intimate with the high back booths and two dining rooms. There was also room for me to live above the bistro on the second floor so, it couldn’t have been better. With the help of local carpenters and my family we got the place renovated and and running by the end of April.
It is now 2019, and here I am! Still working daily to keep the bistro a place where you LOVE to dine! This is my passion and I am grateful I am able to live my dream every day!
Do I need a reservation?
To avoid disappointment, yes!
Walk in by chance only.....
Can I bring my baby?
No. We have an age limit of 5, meaning NO one under the age of 5. We put this in effect September, 2008 to keep the environment and atmosphere relaxing and enjoyable for everyone. This has turned out to be a great decision and it is a bit of a rite of passage for children turning 5. You’d be surprised how many just “want to go to the Olive Branch” for their 5th birthday.
Why don’t you have steak?
Truthfully, even after 19 years in business I still couldn’t afford too! I don’t have the space or money to do the renovations and upgrades for a char broiler and the exhaust/fire extinguisher system required. I didn’t when I opened and had to create a menu based on oven baked dishes.
Do you do take out?
Again, by chance only. The kitchen is too small and when we are busy with dine in customers we do not have the space or time to do take out orders. If you call ahead, like even a day but definitely well before 4:00, I can usually work something out for you.
Can I get two or more slices of cheesecake?
No. Due to the popularity and how labour intensive it is for me to make the cheesecakes.... and keep up..... there is a limit of one slice per person, per reservation. If you have a table of 6 and only 2 want cheesecake you could take 4 more, to equal the amount that came out for dinner. it sounds crazy to not allow more but I want all the customers to have the opportunity to have a slice. At the end of each month I do a BLOWOUT of the cheesecake of the month. It is the only time you can get more than one slice AND strictly take out. Follow us on fb to participate!! It really is the only way. I have sold as many as 90 slices in less than 15 minutes, so it goes quickly!!
